Weʼve raised £645 to Campaign for DLI Collection back under one roof. Not in storage at Industrial Est or scattered around the County as DCC/Trustees have done.

    Story

Imagine this, a Regiment of ordinary men, who turned into a Regiment of hero's. The Durham Light Infantry Regiment were the bravest of the brave, even Field Marshal Montgommery said of them "there may be some as good, but I know of none better". 11 Soldiers of the DLI were awarded the Victoria Cross. Thousands of men lost their lives in order that we may live ours the way we do. Once they were honoured in the way they deserved to be in a Museum dedicated to their memory, in beautiful surroundings, where some of these hero's ashes were scattered.

Now the DLI Collection is spread around the County, the majority of the Collection in storage on an Industrial Estate, due to the bad management of The Museum Trustees and the fact that Durham County Council, closed the Museum without any public consultation. DCC did not listen to the public it represents, there were thousands of people who were against the closure of the Museum, but still they continued on their path of destuction, destroying years and years of our Heritage.

We campaigned prior to the closure of the Museum in March 2016 and have been campaigning since the closure, to have the Regiment honoured the way it should be. There have been many untruths, wrong doings, misrepresentations and blatant inconsideration for both the DLI Regiment and the public and we want to put this right. All money raised will go towards the campaign, including advertising, legal and political advice, so we can once again have the DLI Collection under one roof.

Absolute Disgrace that Durham County Council did not "step up to the plate" when it could have kept the once proud Durham Light Infantry Museum Open to Honour Our County's Brave Men!

A group of people, who are dedicated in honouring their County Regiment, the way it should be, with a Museum, all collection under one roof and accessible to the public. Durham County Council closed the Museum without public consultation, siting finances!! This is not the case..
