    Story

Mr Pete Dunn retired from his role as school caretaker in August 2019 after being a huge part of Edlington Victoria Academy for many years. He retired to spend time with his family as we know he completely doted on his lovely granddaughter. Family was the most important thing to Pete. He always showed such kindness and respect to all the staff, pupils and families.

Pete would stand on the KS2 door to welcome pupils in every morning and even welcomed some in Polish! Pete loved to talk to children and find out which football team they supported and then tease them if their team lost the next day. Our pupils loved these very important connections and the great role model that Pete was. His sense of humour is missed as he had the natural ability to make any child smile. We all have such fond memories of him.

Unfortunately, Pete passed away after a battle with Covid 19 in Autumn 2020. It has been news that has greatly saddened our school community. Our thoughts have been with Mrs Dunn and her family.

As a school we would like to create an internal wellbeing garden that will be a sanctuary for our pupils and staff. It will enable there to be a calm space for reflection and opportunity to take time out to appreciate the beauty within the garden and remember Mr Dunn. We would like to make the garden beautiful to look at, sensory with smells and sounds and to have adequate seating for those who use it. We would also like to commemorate a special bench to Pete.

We are raising funds to support this project so that we have a fitting tribute to a very important man. Thank you for all of your donations.
