Story
Two of my sons who are British born and bred are being detained in Prison unjustly and illegally in Senegal, West Africa, since 2/12/17.
My 31 year old son, Ode travelled from Gambia to Mauritania on 29/11/17 but fell ill on arriving there. So he decided to return to Gambia via Senegal but at the Senegal border, despite having all required legal documents, he was subjected to relentless harrassment by the border police who wanted to be bribed and took offence to not getting any from him. His Passport was seized and he was told to go to a Police Station to retrieve it which he did but whenever he tried to get transport to leave senegal, the Police will tell the drivers not to take him. This carried on for several days. He had to sleep rough on the street while getting more sickly, fatigued, frustrated and exhausted. On the fourth day, he almost made it into a car before being physically stopped. A struggle ensued and he was arrested and accused of assault. Meanwhile having not heard from him for days, the family asked his older brother, Ejiro, who was in Gambia to travel to Senegal to find out what happened to Ode. On arriving in Senegal on 7/12/17, he found out that Ode was being detained at the Army unit. Ejiro went there, and unbelievably they also detained him, it seems simply based on a policy of guilty by association.
My five sons have dual British and Nigerian citizenship and were all born and raised in the UK. None of them have a criminal record.
So a man who went in search of his brother, leaving behind, a wife and 3 young children aged, 4, 3 & 1yrs old, is also now being detained in Prison on trumped up charges along with his younger brother. This is a classic case of Abuse of power by Government officials, Miscarriage of justice and Unlawful imprisonment.
My family is devastated and Ejiro's wife and children are distraught and heartbroken.
