    Story

Our daughter, Evie, passed away peacefully on Friday 28th February. She was 12 years old and had a life limiting, very cruel, regressive condition called Zellweger Disease.

She was completely blind and became profoundly deaf – she had a cochlear implant when she was 7 years old. This changed her life and she was able to hear music and sounds clearly.

Towards the end of her life, she was in a wheelchair and up until the last few months, she took great pleasure in pushing herself around.

Evie was a beautiful, brave and determined girl who brought sunshine into a room - she had a very special place in many people’s hearts. She lived life to the full, in every way she was able to – the last few days of her short life she had been riding her trike, horse riding and swimming. During her Wish Weekend 3 years ago, she had a great time helping us sail a trimaran and canoeing.

We moved to Birmingham when Evie was 4, so she could have the best possible education in the deafblind unit at the Victoria School. The multi-sensory curriculum the unit enveloped Evie in, enabled her to learn about the world around her and make friends with other deafblind children.

To enable Evie’s memory to continue, we would like to donate some money to two organisations:

    • Evie’s deafblind unit at the Victoria School to enable the specialist staff to continue to enrich the lives of deafblind children.

    Victoria School MSI Department

    • Summerfield Stables who enabled Evie to enjoy riding on Bobby up until the very end of her life – nothing was too much trouble.

Please donate generously in memory of our beautiful and brave daughter, Evie Isobel Thompson

Hopefully this helps these charities give other children fantastic experiences in the same way they did for Evie.
