Thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page which we are using to help raise £2175 for a helmet for our 12-month old son Wilf.

We were made aware of the issues with Wilf’s head shape at his 6 week check up where he was promptly referred to a paediatrician and then onto a craniofacial specialist. Wilf has a severe case of a condition called Brachycephaly which is often referred to as ‘Flat Head Syndrome.’ Babies who are born with a Brachycephaly head can sometimes have it corrected with repositioning therapy and tools such as a special mattress and pillows but unfortunately these did not work for Wilf. The back of Wilf’s head has remained very flat which can make his head appear very wide and coned.

After much research we have found that often here in the UK the advice is that the condition will most likely resolve itself, however this hasn’t happened in Wilf’s case. Currently the NHS no longer funds treatment for Flat Head Syndrome as it isn’t considered a life threatening condition. Many other countries such as the US and Canada recognise this as a medical issue and studies have revealed amazing results.

We have just had Wilf assessed for a helmet and he has measured as a ‘severe’ case so immediate treatment is needed. Wilf will need to wear his helmet for up to a year. We are trying to raise £2175 for Wilf’s helmet so any donation you feel you can make will be gratefully received and will help us ‘Fix Wilf’s Flat!’
