Story
Egypt's Visually Disabled People Plead for Improvement
There are more than 2.2 million people with visual disabilities living in Egypt most of which suffer from poverty, lack of accessibilities, ineffective educational techniques and governal negligence; yet they still have hope in life and challenge their physical disabilities along with the disabilities created by the society. Will the status of visually disabled people improve?
People facing physical challenges in Egypt have been suffering for a long time discrimination and lack of accessibilities. Individuals having partial or complete loss of sight are not the least among them
According to the World Health Organization W-H-O, there are more than 2.2 million people with visual impairment in Egypt 900,000 of which are totally blind, and yet nearly 80 percent of the causes leading to visual problems could be easily avoided and/or cured through awareness, early diagnosis and accurate medical treatment, which Egypt lacks.
The person with visual disability faces a lot of social problems. Over sympathy might seem the lightest of all, but may actually be the toughest in hurting the person’s emotions.
Why do we need monetary help?
The money contributed will be solely used for the development of the project. We need money for the website, mobile app, and make a cheap Blind-tab, also we need a team for this, and your support through this project will help us make our project a possibility.
Our website and mobile App would be barrier free, it would be accessible to people with disabilities. These websites and App more expensive than websites which are not accessible to people with disabilities.Anyone with visual impairment can use our online technology. Students who do not have access to our online platform.
Our Blind-tab will be cheap and help them to access for the internet and help them in their study.
We seek to make a large database, several events, conferences, and orientation would be organized to motivate and register volunteer to scribe. Schools and universities in Cairo would be covered in the first phase. The other cities in Egypt would be covered in the next phase. The expenses would cover travel, food, stationary and stay.
Blind-tab,
is bringing the tablet experience to blind and visually impaired people. The device is similar to an e-book, but uses liquid-based technology to create small, physical bubbles that rise and fall on the surface on demand to display the necessary text or graphics. The best part is that the user can insert a USB stick or a memory card with various types of text documents, such as a Word .doc or PDF and Blind-tab will convert and display them in Braille. It can do the same with web pages and digital maps. In addition, the user can write and edit pages via Braille Perkins keyboard.
The blind children / man/woman in Egypt live in a great cell.. Is it fair?!!
Our idea has been created to tell them that they are a part of our community... Help them to be apart of us
