Story
No one likes to think about death, let alone talk about it and who feels comfortable talking to children about death.....
Death is the one guaranteed event in all of our lives and sadly many children experience bereavement and grief at a young age.
How do we help children to understand what has happened and support them with the complex emotions of grief? A child's natural way of learning is through play and exploration.
I am fundraising to provide 10 UK bereavement charities and 10 UK schools with a set of Good Grief Toys. This toy set provides children with engaging toys to explore difficult scenarios through play and gives adults the tools to help start tough conversations and explain difficult situations.
You can find out more about Good Grief Toys here
Schools that will receive a set of Good Grief Toys: Mountjoy School -Beaminster, St Nicholas School - Chippenham, Baytree School - Weston-Super-Mare, New Fosseway School - Bristol 1 more to be announced soon.
Charities that will receive a set of Good Grief Toys: Winston's Wish, Children's Hospice South West, Child Bereavement UK, Bodie Hodges Foundation and Pamis (Promoting a more inclusive society).
AND YOU GET TO CHOOSE 5 MORE SCHOOLS & 5 MORE CHARITIES TO RECEIVE A SET OF GOOD GRIEF TOYS. JUST TYPE THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL OR CHARITY THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO NOMINATE IN THE MESSAGE BOX AFTER YOU DONATE *
In the UK a parent of children under 18 dies every 22 minutes; around 23,600 a year. This equates to around 111 children being bereaved of a parent every day.
1 in 29 5-16 year olds has been bereaved of a parent or sibling - that's a child in every average class.
Covid-19 means that these statistics will sadly increase.
Every donation is very gratefully received and will have a huge impact on bereaved and grieving children.
* If we raise enough funds 5 sets of Good Grief Toys will be donated to UK charities of your choosing and 5 sets of Good Grief Toys will be donated to UK schools of your choosing. When you donate please leave a message with the school or charity that you would like to nominate. At the end of the fundraising the names of all of the nominated charities will go in one hat and the names of all of the nominated schools in another hat. 5 names will be randomly selected from each. The more nominations for a school or charity the higher the chance of success!

3 years agoSUCCESS! We've raised the last bit of money and the final set of Good Grief Toys has been set out this week. Thank you so much to everyone who donated. The 5 named charities and 4 named schools have all received a set of Good Grief Toys and they are now in use. They will make such a difference to the bereaved and grieving children that these schools and charities work with. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Sarah x

3 years agoThank you so much for all of the generous donations to this fundraiser. I'm pleased to let you know that 6 sets of Good Grief toys have already been delivered & are in use with children & 2 more sets will be making their way to the amazing charities CBUK & CHSW as soon as they have been completed by my amazing toymaker. This campaign will finish at the end of June & I am eager to be able to send out a set to the final named school. I am just £130 away from doing this. If you are able to share this campaign to help I'd be so grateful. Sarah
