    Story

Labour Party Conference 22-26 Sept 2018

Conference is a vital part of the grassroots democratic process of our party. Delegates hear and sometimes take part in debates, accept or reject elements of reports made by the National Policy Forum, and vote on policy-making decisions and rule changes. Every Constituency also has the chance to submit a Rule Change or Contemporary Motion to Conference.

It is really important that local representation is made at this national forum, and Hallam is taking an ambitious step this year by increasing its number of elected delegates from four to six (we are allowed up to eight), each of whom will have voting rights.

As of 2017 the separate Women's Conference has gained a formal voice in policy-making. At least one Hallam delegate will attend this year.

Annual Conference constitutes far more than just a forum for delegates. It provides an exciting place for a whole host of people to get together and discuss the party’s policies and priorities, attend seminars and training events, fringe events, network and exchange best practice experiences and influence policy thinking.

This is why we need your help. It will cost the best part of £900.00 to register our six delegates for Conference passes, including to Women's Conference. In addition we need £800.00 for accommodation in Liverpool. In the last 3 years we have had two General Elections (2015 and 2017), all-out local elections in 2016, and further local elections in May 2018. All of this costs money! Constituencies receive very little central funding, so it's up to us to raise the money we need ourselves.

We're asking you - whether you are a Labour Party member or an inspired supporter - to give whatever you can to help us in this enterprise. You will be contributing to one of the most vital elements of democracy available to us, and helping build towards the Labour government we all so desperately need.

Should we be fortunate enough to exceed our target, any unspent funds will be carried over to start a Conference fund for 2019.
