    Story

Heartwood Skills is a C.I.C based in Chester le Street County Durham, the third most deprived area in England. 48.5% of children under 18 do not gain 5 C’s or above at GCSE level. We want to empower young people who struggle to access education by giving them a place to pursue their ambitions for a career, promote their well-being, deliver training in relevant industry standard qualifications and offer them a safe place to study, socialise and become future innovators

    How Do We Do This?

At Heartwood Skills we consider the individual needs of all our attendees. We look at their social and academic requirements and tailor-make our programs around each person. We facilitate them through four distinct programs; Mentoring, Tutoring, Training and Enterprise. We feel that these cater for our attendees in a way that empowers, inspires and motivates each individual to be able to fulfil their potential.

    MENTORING

We work alongside young people, helping them access qualifications, employment, healthcare, housing and wellness

    TUTORING

We offer tutoring help through school exams, training in industry recognisable qualifications, trade skills, functional skills, self-being and day-to-day life management.

    TRAINING

One particular way we help our attendees back into a career is through training, giving everyone an equal starting block of access.

    ENTERPRISE

With years of experience in enterprise we offer help, direction to training and basic training in skilled areas such as plumbing, tiling, bathroom fitting, woodwork, carpentry and various other trade skills.

Our mission is to empower young people to be all that they can. "If you woke up tomorrow and could be anything you wanted to be, who would you be?" We look at building relationships with people on the fringes of society, giving them a skill and helping them in the modern world. We work with youth and young adults who are disenfranchised from academia through training, mentoring and tutoring to help them gain industry-recognised qualifications and accreditation in the appropriate spheres for what they want to do in life.

Such a worthy cause. Our youth really need Heartwood Skills in the town.
