Weʼve raised £3,960 to Give 8 year old Thomas the stability and security he needs - unfortunately this includes taking Lola & Tom to the consulate in London

Funded on Sunday, 30th June 2019

    Story

Stephanie needs to raise £4000 to ensure she can stay with her 8 year old son, please help her

In December 2018, less than two weeks before Christmas, my husband Ross (Lola and Thomas’s father) died of a brain tumour.

Ross's condition was diagnosed when our son was just 5 days old and so Thomas never knew his father as a fit and healthy man like most children do.

As Thomas grew up, his father grew sicker and much of my attention was diverted to looking after Ross.

Thomas is only eight years old and while having to come to terms with the loss of his father, he also faces an unknown future with Brexit looming because I am an EU National but he and his sister Lola (17) are British like their father - I could be made to leave the country and what then for my children? Who would look after our son?

I know that you will understand I now HAVE to give Thomas the devotion and stability he clearly needs - and deserves - and so I must seek British Nationality in order to make sure I do not have to leave the country - his life is here and his friends are here - he is Scottish through and through

It is Thomas' time to be the centre of my world and of my attention.

Becoming a British citizen will cost around £3500 in fees and travel (to Aberdeen and Glasgow). For example – finger printing costs £125 and I have to get there; the basic application costs £1,400 and then there’s the Life in Britain test (in Glasgow) another £50, the Residence card application £65 and a seemingly endless amount of expensive bureaucracy that just mounts up and up and up

Please help me to raise this money and give Thomas the security he needs.

Dear supporters A wee update on where we are re citizenship application. The Home Office issued my permanent residence card (yay!) which is stage 1 of appl. HOWEVER it did so under the wrong name 😞 causing quite a few complications. Card had to be sent back for rectification which can take up to 6 months. Until this is done, process is paused. Here we have it... much gratitude, Steph x

My dear dear friends (known or otherwise). I have just received news that my Permanent Residence Card has been granted. We can now move onto applying for Naturalisation. PR means that the Home Office accepts that I’m settled’ here but still restricts access to some of the rights a British National would have. Naturalisation will remove such barriers & I’ll be able to breath more easily when it’s all done. I’m so very grateful for your financial & moral support. Onwards & upwards! Xxx

Just when I thought I was done and it was time to celebrate, the demand for more paperwork gets in the way... due to the lack of consulate presence in Scotland, I have to take myself and the children to London for 3 nights to attend 4 different meetings at 2 different consulates. This is to sort out documentation in relation to Ross' passing (and my marital status) as well as registration of children. It took a lot of pleading to get these appointments as close together as possible to avoid multiple trips down. So, on we go with the marathon...
