Story
In February 2020 Jenson managed to climb into a running bath. He was 18 months old. The hot water had been set 70 degrees (fault of the landlord) Jenson’s older brother Teddy saw what was happening and went and got him mummy. This quick action in fact saved his brothers life! Jenson was airlifted straight to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where it was clarified that he had suffered severe scalds to 94% of his body. Days later when in surgery having a stoma created to prevent infection, the surgeons discovered that half of his bowel had died due to shock. They removed over half and went ahead with the stoma. We were told we had 48 hours for the bowel to come alive again and he was given a 3% chance of survival. 2 days later it was still black and didn’t look good. He had to have a further 3cm removed and his stoma was moved to the other side, which miraculously was fleshy pink and has been ever since. He was diagnosed with Small Bowel Syndrome and now relies on feeds through a tube into a vein near his heart for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. He spent 5 weeks in ICU which was basically spent keeping him alive and comfortable. I can’t explain the emotions we went through as a family and we prayed every single day that our little boy would fight to stay with us. He then went onto the burns ward for a couple of months, continuing to have surgery 3 times per week to clean and prevent infection as he had no skin. Over the weeks Jenson’s skin on his chest and back started to heal, he had to have skin grafts on his legs, feet, bottom and tummy. He had to learn all of the minor movements again and continues to be creamed and stretched 3 times per day as well as wearing pressure garments to tame his scars. After then spending another 3 months on the Gastro Ward whilst Mummy and Daddy were trained to do all of his cares we finally managed to get him home. I can't fit anymore of the story in here so a year on and he's just had his 50th op!
Nearly done £1000 can we make it £2000

4 years agoAmazing that we've almost got to £1000 but can we do more? £1000 will be a huge help to the family, but as a family of 5, it will only get them so far. It cost the best part of £10000 to get a family of 5 to the most magical place on the earth! I might be ambitious, but men didn't get to the moon by not thinking big!
