Story
Me and my wife Mandy are running a half marathon (13.1 miles) at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire on 1st Oct 2017 to raise money for the Kachin refugee children from Northern Burma (Myanmar). The Kachin Relief Fund-UK, http://kachinrelief.org.uk/ a registered charity, has been sponsoring Karate classes for Kachin refugee children for over 2 years and now the classes are growing and about 400 students are regularly practising Karate. There are no extra curriculum activities outside the school in refugee camps. Doing Karate will help the children not just with self defence but to learn self discipline, boosts their self-esteem, teaches them to learn respect for each other, understand good citizenship, become healthier and more self controlled enabling them to avoid the temptations of drugs, but most of all it seems to relieve the psychological trauma of the hardships that they are facing daily. All the students have now started learning Karate at higher levels and need protective clothing as the demands of the sport become greater, such as gloves, head gear, shin pads and floor mats, and the girls also need chest covers. £1000 will go a long way to provide them this equipment, which will enable them to learn karate in a safe way. All the money we raise will be distributed directly to the Karate classes in the refugee camps.
