Story
Hope Agriculture Uganda is a project presently based in Wakiso district, central Uganda. The vision is to establish sustainable small-scale commercial farms. Trainees on the project are high school educated young people from poor families. They learn how to farm pigs, bees, fruit trees and cash crops, and how to market and sell their produce.
After 3 years on the project, trainees will be given 3 pregnant pigs and a share of the profits, and helped to secure a loan to buy a parcel of land (typically half a hectare). They then leave to establish their own farms, and train others in the methods they have learned.
The project has been running for 2 years in temporary accommodation, and now the project needs to establish its own training farm. A small parcel of land has been bought in Luweero district, about 50 miles away from Uganda’s capital, Kampala. The land is close to the main north road from Kampala, making transportation and sales of animals and produce easier than the current location. Despite its proximity to the capital current access to the farm is limited to narrow dirt tracks. Kampala is a rapidly growing city and land prices are much more affordable in Luweero.
Currently, all running costs (feeds and salaries primarily) are being met through generated profits and sponsorship. However, around £5000 is required to construct the new farm, staff housing, and move the animals to the new land. You can help make this happen by donating.
You can see some of the work that goes on at the farm by following on facebook, search for Hope Agriculture Uganda.
Thank you very much for your support and generosity.
