My girlfriends sister, Joannah, sadly passed away on 27th April 2017 at the age of 32. She was a beloved daughter and treasured sister, niece, cousin, granddaughter and friend who was loved by everyone she met. Looking back over the past 32 years there are only fond memories, Jo had strong character and a heart of gold with not a bad word to say about anyone. Living each day with positivity, kindness and humour.

Alongside Down Syndrome, Joannah was born with a hole in her heart. Due to this heart defect, over the years Joannah developed Eisenmenger Syndrome, which caused high blood pressure in her lungs. In December she started collapsing, becoming less mobile and energetic, and had signs of heart and kidney failure; seeing the struggle become more visible in the last few months of her life was a true heartbreak to see.

Her death came as a shock to us all, particularly her Mum who gave up work to care for Jo full-time. We all thought we had more time but are thankful that Jo did not suffer, she passed away peacefully and left behind the legacy of a beautiful human being who we shall never forget.

No parent should have to go through the death of a child and no parent will have been prepared for such an event, especially in these awful circumstances. This is why we would like to raise as much as possible to help Joannah’s family fund her funeral and give her the amazing send off she truly deserves.

All additional proceeds will go towards the children’s charity, Heartlink, which has provided Jo with amazing support throughout her life and is currently fighting to keep its East Midlands location open.
