Story
During the Easter Holidays I will be going to Kigezi High School (KHS) in Uganda. Every year WMSF (William Morris Sixth Form) runs a trip to KHS , located in Kabale, south-west Uganda offering students an educational and cultural exchange to learn about the culture by engaging in projects with students of similar age and through this to help the local community.
I will be helping by doing educational activities with the students there and by taking part in two weeks of 'hands on' educational and social projects including providing text books, laboratory equipment, computers and art materials from my fundraising activities. Some funds will go to support AIDS orphans in the town. In return, students and staff at KHS provide materials for tutorials at WMSF on life at KHS and on AIDS in Uganda for the teaching of the infectious diseases topic on A level Biology, and exchange some artwork with our art department. Many of the classrooms at KHS have few or no resources and teachers work for very low pay. The number of projects available in and around Kabale has grown to incorporate the Wise Parents Day Nursery, Blessed Academy Primary School, the Kabale Arts Centre, Educate a Child Uganda, Pentagon Secondary School and, more recently, Taufiq Islamic Primary School, Lake Bunyonyi Vocational College and the National Teaching College all of which offer opportunity for involvement during the trip.
As a result of the strong link between WMSF staff and the projects in Kabale, a number of staff, in conjunction with a school in Oxford and an existing Ugandan charity, came together to found the charity All Our Children. The charity has three main aims: to advance the education and student support in selected schools in South West Uganda through school partnerships; to relieve poverty through the support of community welfare projects linked to such schools; to advance the education of disadvantaged UK students by work placements in these schools.

No rolling up of sleeves Jack, just give your grandma a call and perhaps tell her what you hope to be doing in Uganda.

I needed to raise £1000. Thanks to everyone who helped to raise £420 already - £580 more still needed. I plan to raise the funds by taking part in a cycle to Oxford on the 11th Feb. And doing "odd jobs" for my sponsors (car cleaning, garden tidying, window cleaning, etc).
