Myself and 3 friends- Jan Brent, Michaela Chandler and Jenni Bailey-are taking part in the Southampton 10k on 23rd April 2017 and we are hoping to raise money for Melon Mission. We are all training hard going out jogging before/after work, in lunch breaks and at weekend-any chance we can find to get there!

Melon Mission is a school for destitute children in Nakuru, Kenya. About 450 children who live in the slums in Nakuru are able to go to Melon Mission 5 days a week for food and education. For some of them the meals they get at Melon are the only ones they have, and for all of them it is the only chance of education. Melon Mission is entirely run by volunteers, and relies heavily on donations. It gives the children a chance of a better life and they are desperate to learn! As well as a place to learn, the school is a safe place where they are loved and nurtured. I went there to help in 2013 with my son Joe and the volunteers who run the school are truly inspiring, and completely dedicated to giving the children a safe haven for a few hours a day. The money we raise will help them keep providing this service for the wonderful children who really do deserve a chance to succeed.
