Weʼve raised £2,015 to To Remember Louie Butler James

Funded on Saturday, 5th August 2017

    Story

Louie Butler James, a beautiful young spirit aged just 16, was suddenly taken away from us on March 22, 2017.

Despite having to deal with ill health for long periods of time, Louie was a special person - resilient, funny, thoughtful, loved by his friends and family whom he loved in return … (almost as much as he loved trains).

To keep his memory alive, we are setting up a fund in Louie’s name so that his family - parents Louise and Ray and sister Francesca - can create memorials in some of Louie's favourite places, and also support charities in his name.

At the moment, some of the ideas put forward are:
    • A plaque bench in his name at Hassocks Railway station
    • Providing respite trips to Bluebell Railway (or similar) for children with chronic illnesses
    • Supporting the work of charities, such as NeST, in searching for a cure for nephrotic syndrome

Any suggestions from people who knew Louie are especially welcome.
We will also be looking to provide a welcome break for Louie’s family who supported him throughout his young life.

Please support this Just Giving page for them.

Thank you for taking the time to read Louie's page, for your contributions and suggestions, for your compassion, and for sharing this with others.

We all miss Louie so much.

A message to the generous people & organisations who helped support Louie's fund on JustGiving. A commemorative bench from Southdown Nurseries is being set up in Clayton Mills park, its plaque reads: "Louie George Butler James - Our Epic Legend". A second bench will be placed at Hassocks train station, a commemorative tree will be planted at Downlands School, and there's a project to name a SR train after him. A gift in Louie's name will go to NEST, and friends and family will continue to raise funds in other ways. Many thanks to everyone.

And we are now in the process of organising a bench for Louie to go into Hassocks Train Station. There’s some paperwork still to be done but it’s coming along. And on June 4th Caroline Game, a friend of Louie and his family, ran the Worthing 10k in Louie’s memory with donations to this Just Giving Page. Well done! More to come soon ….

How amazing people are - and organisations too - that they are still giving to Louie’s page! Millwall Football Club, who Jam worked for, have made a generous cash donation. Southdown Nurseries, who raised their own funds, have created a bench in Louie’s name. It will be set up in Clayton Mills Park, a local green space where Louie often met with his friends. The Just Giving Fund will help with the setting up costs.

The Southdown Nurseries in Hassocks, a place that Louie and Louise often visited together, independently raised funds to dedicate a bench in Louie’s name, possibly at Hassocks Train Station. How special!

Although I never met Louie, I've heard lots of stories about his life through his Dad - Ray. It sounds like he was a vibrant, bright boy who brought so much love to his family and community.

Ray is an old friend and it hurts to hear of this tragedy. Louie should have a permanent memorial and although we never met him it's obvious how much he was loved.
