Story
Jasper and Layla Fitzgerald-Woolfe have both been successfully selected by the British Deaf Association to represent the United Kingdom at the forthcoming European Union of the Deaf Youth Camp in Slovakia from July 21st to 29th for young deaf people aged 13-17 years old.
Both children are the eighth generation in their family who happen to be deaf and communicate in British Sign Language (BSL). There will be four young deaf representatives from many different countries in Slovakia. They will explore their Deaf identities and cultures with deaf young people their age range across European counterparts.
There will be a lot of activities which will enrich their experiences. They also look forward to enhancing their international sign skills that will be beneficial for their transnational meetings with other deaf young people outside the country.
On their return, they plan to bring back and share their experiences and to give some short presentations on what they had learnt from their trip. This would be done with a PowerPoint and encourage other young children to learn more about “Deaf identity”.
As this trip is self-funded, we are now in the process of seeking donations from some organisations and individuals and would like to ask you to consider donating towards their expenses. They will be doing some sponsored events such as refraining from using their mobile phones for a fortnight and baking cakes for the community.
Your donation in any kind will be greatly appreciated, however if you are not in a position to donate then we would kindly appreciate any support you may provide them.
Any surplus will be donated to the BDA Youth to support other Deaf children.

6 years agoThank you everyone so far! We both are really nervous about the forthcoming challenge! We do not know how we can cope without our mobile phones and it will be a real experience. It will be a rewarding experience as we will get to realise how we communicate without technology! How did people write and wait for their letters, we'll never know. Well perhaps this is an opportunity! Thank you for your support, we're just over the halfway line. It'll be great if you could persuade others to help us reach the target! Thank you again! xx
