    Story

Jocelyn and Costansia from Vipaji Vyetu explain what the organisation does:
“Vipaji Vyetu” means “Our Gifts/Talents” in Swahili.
Through the various projects of Vipaji Vyetu Organization we strive
to empower people throughout the city of Mwanza to discover their unique gifts and talents, and thereby improve their quality of life. Three of our projects work with women and vulnerable children. We are excited to share with you briefly about each of these. When a woman is empowered she then lifts up her entire family. With each family lifted up, the life of the community improves. Education is always the key. Whether offering training in handicrafts, life skills, leadership or entrepreneurship, all of our projects focus on education.

    1. Chanua Project : Chanua means “Blossom” in Swahili and it helps women and children in need to do just that! Through training in making handicrafts, women are able to increase their income and
thereby improve the quality of life for themselves and their children. Tutoring programs boost not only the children’s academic performance but also their self-esteem. This is especially important
    for children who are orphans.

    2. Uzima Centre : Uzima means “Fullness of Life” and that is what we want each person to achieve.
This project for adults and children living with HIV, as well as other vulnerable children, provides assistance with healthcare and schooling. There is a special handicraft program for the teens.

    3. Lulu Project : Lulu means “Pearl” and this project teaches young, single mothers that they are each a “priceless pearl.” Together they discover their talents, plan their futures, start small businesses and learn to make beautiful handicrafts. This 10 month program encourages cooperation, courage
and creativity. Some of the graduates are chosen to train as Lulu Facilitators, enabling the project to reach more and more young mothers.

Together these projects reach approximately 300 families.

Jeannie was a lady of many talents and was inspirational to the pupils and staff who had the good fortune to know her. We will always remember her fondly in our thoughts and prayers.

    Mwanza, Tanzania.

Jeannie had taught in Mwanza and always felt a connection to that area. During a visit in 2016 she attended an event held by the organisers of Vipaji Vyetu that was also attended by some of the women who benefited from the activities. She was keen to support the organisation.
