Story
The HML Foundation, established
in 2017 as an NGO by founders Jennifer and Tim Nash, traces its roots back to 2006 when it started as a personal project dedicated to preserving Lusaka Libraries. Over the years, our mission has evolved to not only save these essential spaces but to also create alternative public and community hubs through pop-up libraries.
Since our inception, we've strived to foster Public-Private Partnerships, focusing on capacity building to align with the 2030 SDGs 4, 8, 9, and 11, working hand in hand with the people of Zambia. While we initially relied on rented spaces for our pop-up libraries, the challenges posed by the pandemic in 2020 made it clear that we needed a sustainable and pandemic-proof solution - our own space.
To realize this vision, we aim to raise c£1,000,000 GBP for our ambitious project in collaboration with Jannou Africa Group. Together, we plan to construct a new community library, providing a modern facility with broadband connectivity and essential amenities, complementing existing poorly managed public infrastructures.
Our journey began with a focus on Libraries in 2017/18, driven by the belief that a library should serve as a public repository of knowledge, resources, and wisdom. We continue to uphold the fundamental principle that a library, whether physical or digital, should be a space accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing.
In collaboration with Ark & Brook, a PR agency founded by Jennifer Nash, we're extending our mission to empower and collaborate with like-minded Female Entrepreneurs. Through the Global Ignite Vision Awards platform, we invite these entrepreneurs to join hands with the HML Foundation, immortalizing their legacy by becoming a friend of our cause. By doing so, they contribute to the creation of a future digital hub of information and resources, with their names etched in our WINDOWS OF CHANGE.
Together, we can build a new iconic library for Lusaka – not just a physical structure but a symbol of unity, progress, and shared knowledge. Our City. Our Library. Our future is a collaborative effort to #GetZambiaReading, leaving an unforgettable and enduring legacy, a gift that keeps giving.
Follow our journey on social media @hmlfoundation and watch a video showcasing our pop community libraries in action. We appreciate your time and welcome your support in making this vision a reality. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to a brighter future. Together, We're So Much Better!
