I am taking part in a 5k Obstacle Race at Chelmsford City Racecourse on Saturday 16 June. I will be running for The Ledge Foundation - a new charity close to my heart - set up in the name of my best friend's son, Lewis Edge, who, in turn, happens to be my son's best friend!

Lewis suffered a tragic life-changing accident back in October 2016 when he was 11 years of age and spent several weeks in intensive care at The Royal London Hospital, undergoing many operations as a result. The family was lucky enough to have financial independence to carry them through this period and beyond, but are very much aware that many families in similar situations are not so fortunate. For example, just the cost of travelling to and from hospital every day can put a strain on families' budgets, especially in cases where some parents may have to give up their jobs in order to stay with their child in hospital for the duration and become full-time carers on their discharge, thus enduring severe financial hardship affecting the whole family.

I am pleased to say that Lewis has been making good progress since coming out of hospital but although he has returned to school, he will still require medical attention for several years to come. However, The Ledge Foundation has not been set up to help Lewis and his family, but rather other families who are going through similar situations but who may be struggling to make ends meet.
