Story
I am raising money to travel to Sri Lanka in 2 weeks time to give voluntary service on holistic projects for vulnerable children with additional needs and disabilities.
I have been giving voluntary service and self- funding all of my flights to Sri Lanka and expenses for the last 2 years. I am a holistic school teacher and in February 2016, I took an 8 month Sabbatical in Sri Lanka. I was deeply moved by the plight of many children with additional needs in the East and Northern Provinces of Sri Lanka and their families. My voluntary life- long heart service began. Sharing my experience and skills with children, families, teachers, health professionals and other NGO.
I give voluntarily with other specialists working voluntarily in Sri Lanka. We provide therapeutic workshops for children, families, teachers, midwives, health professionals and local NGO's.
Everybody gives voluntarily and for our programmes to run, we need our specialist trainers, yoga therapists and volunteers to be able to travel to the East and North of Sri Lanka. From Colombo airport, the areas where we work are 7-8 hours travel by car and public transport.
Many children with additional needs & disabilities in the East and North of Sri Lanka (in other areas too) are not able to attend their local school. The majority of children with complex needs & a physical impairment do not have wheelchairs, specialist equipment or receive any physiotherapy, speech & language therapy or any therapeutic intervention. For many children who have more moderate additional needs they are unable to go to school because their family live in poverty and can't afford the transportation costs to travel to the nearest government school with a special class.
There are community visits and programmes for the children who don't attend school and their families. For sustainable change and to promote early intervention, we facilitate training workshops for midwives because they are the key people in the community, especially remote villages who know the children and can support the families.
The majority of people in these areas have experienced great trauma due to the 30 year civil war in Sri Lanka. Then if a family who is already experiencing trauma and living in poverty has a child with any additional need or disability, they need more support.
Please donate what you can to help me raise the money for my flight from London to Sri Lanka. Also to raise funds for the travel costs and local simple accommodation for myself and team of specialists who are giving service for our 3 week holistic programme. You will be helping to: run holistic teaching and learning programmes for SEND teachers, midwives & health professionals in Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Kilinochci. Helping to run Special Yoga therapeutic programmes in Trinco, Batticaloa and Trincomalee. Also for visiting children in the community who are unable to attend school and who do not receive therapeutic intervention.
If you would like more information- please message me.
Huge Gratitude,
Julie X
