    Story

EDIT - We are now going to be seeking permission to have a bench placed in Rowan's name in our local community. We will also be naming a star after him to he can look down on us always. We will be choosing the brightest and biggest star we can find. Please keep our sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers.

EDIT - We are so overwhelmed by everyone's kindness and generosity, we can't believe we reached our target so quickly and we are grateful beyond words. We decided to up our target slightly so that, when we get to Disney we can spoil the boys rotten and treat them to toys, souvenirs etc. We really can give them a truly magical time because of each and every one of you. Thank you all so much,

We are Kathryn and Simon, and we are Rowan's parents. Rowan is four years old and has been diagnosed with several plexiform neurofibromas. These are benign tumours that are growing in his leg and brain stem. Unfortunately, whilst they are benign, they can become cancerous. They are also too dangerous to remove. Some help can be given with the one in his leg, but the one in his brain is a different story; eventually, it will cause Rowan to lose his life. We have been told that Rowan will be pushing it to reach ten years old.

We desperately want to take him to Disney Land Paris. He has spent hours watching Disney films during the treatment he has already had and would love nothing more than to visit Disney Land. We want to take him sooner rather than later as the time scale we have been given for him is generous at best. We would love to let him stay in the cars themed hotel (his favourite film) and create some happy memories for us all. Rowan has a 7 year old brother who is struggling to understand what is happening, so if we are able to take him away from that and give them some time together it would mean so much. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

We have just got home from our week away. We wanted to thank everyone. In the end, our tickets were generously paid for by in-laws and some of the funds raised were used to treat the boys to toys and meeting characters (including a character breakfast). We are due to move so this week so once that has happened the things needed to put the bench in situ will be sorted. We would also like to make a donation to nerve tumours UK in order for their work to continue and therefore hopefully find treatment for the condition.

Rowan had an appointment with the spine specialist in London last week. Unfortunately it was worse than we thought, his spine is significantly deformed. He can have a back brace as a temporary measure but this will not fix the issue, it will only help with pain management. He is due to have an MRI and CT on his spine and this will tell us if he could be a candidate for growth rods, this is unlikely though as his condition is complicated and his extra medical needs make surgery very dangerous.

Rowan will be having another MRI on the 20th of April. This will be to asses the tumours in his head, neck and leg. Unfortunately the one in his leg caused significant pressure on his heel causing it to fracture. He spent 4 weeks sporting an orange cast and has just had it removed. Whilst this fracture has healed, it is very possible that it could fracture again. We also have an appointment with his oncologist this month to discuss in depth the next few years for Rowan and how we can help as his illness progresses.
