Story
The Kirklees Cycling Academy (www.k-ca.org) is a club that has been helping young cyclists excel in the sport since 2010. In that time we have helped 8 riders reach the Olympic Development Apprenticeship, many winning National and Regional titles and now we have some of our academy riders racing in semi-professional teams and looking to make the leap to professional teams in the next 12-24 months. This is a tough sport, with lots of expenses and as such, we are asking you to support our cause.
Our fund raising effort is focussed on the adult riders, one who is a founder of the KCA and two parents of the current members each looking to put themselves into the suffer zone on June 23rd / June 24th to raise funds for this great cause. The ride will be based in Calderdale taking in three serious climbs that amount to 10 miles of climbing every 30 miles. The climbs are known as Cragg Vale, Ripponden Bank and a big climb from West Vale to Outlane. By completing NINE laps of this 30 mile loop our team will cover 270 miles, 90 miles of climbing and over 27,000 feet of ascent in 27 hours. Stopping only for minimal sleep, refueling and comfort breaks the intrepid trio will remain committed to the cause of fund raising and use this to motivate themselves to the finish. We aim to raise at least £2700 of funds which fits nicely with the number 27 in all our ride statistics. Please give generously to help Mason Hollyman (www.masonhollyman.co.uk) with his efforts racing in Spain,. Belgium, France and Italy. **We would like to thank Alex Reed for his permission to use of the image of Mason Hollyman

6 years agoTuesday June 26th. Funds have kept coming in online and offline along with many votes of support for the completion of the ride last weekend. The legs are starting to feel normal again, both Graeme and I are chuffed with the outcome and how the funds provided by everyone will really help Mason. I will add any further updates this week and then close the log down next Monday. Best wishes to everyone, fabulous weather....enjoy Summer and no doubt catch some of you soon at work, cycling or socially.....

6 years agoWe completed the ride this morning...lap 9 was very tough. We actually rode 271 miles, 29,500 feet of climbing which is higher than Everest, so Neverest became Everest.we were just over 27 hours but with stops to thank supporters and friends we figured it was a price worth paying .. massive support...kept us going along with the reason we took on the ride to help Mason... Thank you to EVERYONE that supported us, sponsored us and helped us....
