Story
Lyla has recently turned 5 and upon reflection of all her lovely gifts and as we sat down and started to fill her shoebox for the FSCI christmas shoebox appeal she has started to ask questions. Understating that some children may only receive this shoebox we are currently filling made Lyla realise she has a lot to share with these children. In her words she would like to give some of her toys and all her birthday money to help fill as many shoeboxes as possible. Lyla has £45 birthday money and we have worked out that each shoebox will cost around £8 to fill so shes a long way off the goal she has set herself of 52.
She would also like to decorate each box with love hearts and draw a picture and write a ltitle note to accompany each one. She has requested we fill 52! With only 6 days until the shoeboxes are due at school to be sent to their new homes I realise this is a bit ambitious but i am wanting to help her in anyway I can and we would really appreciate any donations anyone could give towards this fantasic charity and help Lyla reach as close to her goal of 52 boxes as possible. All donation's will go directly to buying supplies to fill the boxes and if by some miracle we manage to fill all 52 any remaining money will.go towards postage costs which are £3 per shoebox
FSCI is asking the public to get involved with helping some of Southeast Europe’s poorest people through its Christmas Box Appeal, which it is taking over from The Trussell Trust.
Christmas boxes are put together by people in the UK. Each is made by wrapping a shoe box in festive paper and filling it with small gifts such as soap, stationery, gloves, hats, toys and sweets. The boxes are distributed to orphanages, poor Roma communities, women’s refuges, refugee camps, prisoner’s children, poor rural schools and kindergartens and isolated elderly or disabled people in Bulgaria and Serbia. For many, this will be the only present that they receive this Christmas. Last year a record 11,724 Christmas boxes were donated by individuals, schools, churches, businesses and community groups in Salisbury, southern England, Wales and the Midlands.
