Story
One of the key ingredients of successful and quality childhood education is the role played by extra-curricular activities in developing the cognitive abilities, motor and social skills among others, of children. Though this should be the widespread norm in schools nation-wide, to children from slum communities and low-income households in Nigeria, this is a luxury.
In Makoko, Africa's largest floating slum, make-shift primary schools erected by members of the community prioritise teaching Numeracy and English skills, as those are seen as the ‘relevant’ areas of education. In doing so, the children are inadvertently excused from the benefits accruable to them, from an enriched and creative curriculum. The lack of such activities also deprives the children from reinforcing knowledge gained by applying them outside of the walls of a traditional classroom, and potentially discovering their natural talents and gifts.
With your help, hundreds of Makoko children will access the Quality Education they deserve, via 4 key extra-curricular areas; Sports, Arts & Craft, Change Making, and Tech.
With only £10 or $12, you get to #levelup a child in Makoko.
