Story
Look Twice will be setting up 2 local football teams, one 11-aside and one 7-aside made up of young people under the age of 18 living in and around Dorset road.
Joining the football team will be conditional on the young person also attending a homework club/ educational actives which will be run by professionals working at Tibbalds (a creative team of architects, planners and urban designers).
The aim and objectives of setting up the football teams is to:
- equip the young people with transferrable skills that could increase their employability and that can be used in their academic life.
-do away with the post code/ area wars that exist in and around Dorset as the team will be made up of young people from different areas in and around Dorset road.
- create an environment where young people can be self-sufficient and take ownership of a project that they believe in.
- the football coaches will provide mentoring and support to some of the young adults in the team so that the young adults can take positive steps to becoming a community football coach. The skills and guidance will equip the young adults, some of whom are NEETs (young person who is not in education or training), with an opportunity to increase their employability skills.
Dorset road and the surroundings areas are amongst the 10% most deprived neighborhoods nationally based on the level of crime . The third and fourth things that residents said most needed improving is the level of crime and activities for teenagers, respectively (Lambeth Council Residents' survey 2015). Look Twice has been set up as a direct response to this.
Look Twice has already self funded a community fun day, free barbecue party, football fun day and a stop and search workshop. Additional resources are required to launch the football team, training programme and expand its offerings.
