STEKA is a family home for (currently 68) very vulnerable children rescued from abusive situations or living alone on the streets of Blantyre, Malawi. STEKA children are given an education (as long as fees can be paid) but in a country where 54% of the population live below the poverty line, more is needed to help them (and other marginalised young people) into more sustainable future lives.

Being a grassroots, non-governmental organisation; STEKA relies solely on donations for its continuance. STEKA make sure every child in their care has access to education, healthcare and a loving family and home environment as opposed to living in an institution. The year I spent living there was the most incredible time of my life - the love, strength and resilience these kids show is inspirational and I want to be able to give back to a place so close to my heart.

Due to adverse weather conditions, Malawi's staple crop has been failing, thus causing food prices to soar - this causes a lot of pressure when there's almost 70 mouths to feed. Some of the children also require new prosthetic limbs so they are able to attend school - these will cost £220. My amazing family have already donated an incredible £600 (574,907 Malawian kwacha) which will go a long way, but the more we can get the better - every donation counts! I have funded my trip myself and every penny raised will be going directly to STEKA to help with the life-changing work they are doing.
