    Story

I'm not usually one to fundraise or do sponsored walks but this is an emergency!

A good friend of ours lost her husband to cancer last Saturday.

Her "best friend' in life and beloved partner, didn't have an estate as he was in a nursing home and the benefits he was getting were funding his stay there.
When his illness got very bad he was admitted to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, where he continued treatment but sadly passed away a few days ago.

The Bereavement Benefit is not available to our friend because of her age - unbelievably, being over 65, she isn't eligible for the bereavement benefit which can help to pay for a portion of the funeral costs. The cheapest funeral our friend could get costs £3150 and to progress it she needs a deposit of £1300. Having sold some of her possessions and gathered as much money she can from the little family she has, she is still £800 short. So this is what I am fundraising for - to give our friend's husband the send off he deserves, and help our friend cover some of the costs.

Everyone should be able to celebrate the life of their loved one by coming together and reflecting on the persons life's achievements, joys and happy moments they shared with them. It shouldn't be denied to a person for lack of money. The 'public health' funeral which is basically just a cremation, is not good enough for respectfully bidding farewell to a loved one. It's sad that in this time in our human history that to respectfully bid farewell to a loved one in a way that meets current standards, costs so much money, which some people just haven't got.

I will be doing a 10 mile walk. Yes 10 MILES! This Sunday, I will walk down the coast from my house to Southwold, walking on the sand and pebbles, which will no doubt be VERY PAINFUL on my calves after 10 MILES! (I'm not the most fit person around)
Please sponsor whatever you can, even if it's a small amount, and help celebrate human life by giving to a person in great need.

Hello everyone, thank so much for all your support, all the money raised was given to our friend Pauline and the funeral could go ahead, with a small gathering afterwards for friends and family. It really means a lot to Pauline that so many people donated and I'm overwhelmed that we were able to raise the money for her! The total raised (with donations outside of justgiving) was £760, so this was a great help to pay for the funeral. Thanks to all, and for your kind gesture and thoughts :)

We reached the finish line!!!! Here we are at Southwold pier, having walked up the coast for 4 WHOLE HOURS!!! Starting the journey through rain, wind, getting hot,.cold, running after dogs who were following other dogs, saying hello to other walkers, taking photos of the changing scenes, sinking in waterlogged sand, jumping over streams, observing erosion and houses that are perilously close to the cliff, and finally having a nice meal in a cosy pub in Southwold ( and feeding the doggies chips under the table). A bit shattered but enjoyed it!

Hi all, we're all set for our walk tomorrow, starting when the tide starts to go out at 9.30am. We're probably looking at 5 hours to reach Southwold, and I have been warming up my calf muscles every day by walking an hour a day with our dog! However I have a slight cold, and sniffly nose, but it will be better by the morning and I'll be walking in the bright sunny air out on the beach! Thanks for all your support!
