Story
Miscarriage is something that I thought only ever happened to other people but whilst on holiday in Northumberland I miscarried my baby at 7 weeks.
No words can describe the pain and utter heartache this brings and how truly overwhelming it is, especially being so far away from home.
The staff and bereavement team at Cramlington hospital are some of the most caring and compassionate people I have ever come across. The bereavement team at the hospital work alongside the Teardrop Charity to organise a cremation service for all babies lost from miscarriage.
Despite living over 100 miles from Northumberland I was supported by the bereavement team who talked me through the service and gave me the opportunity to talk through everything.
The service was one of the saddest but most beautiful services I have been to and it gave me the opportunity to say goodbye. No words can ever thank these people enough for their support, their understanding and their compassion during an extremely difficult and vulnerable time.
I will be swimming the distance of the English Channel (22 miles) in 12 weeks starting at the end of December. I will be donating the money to both the Teardrop Charity and Tommy's Charity.
Teardrop is a voluntary organisation in Northumberland. It is affiliated to SANDS and supports bereaved parents and relatives of babies who have been lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or termination of pregnancy because of fetal abnormality. Teardrop is run by volunteers and is involved in running support groups for families, staff training, the installation of special facilities for grieving families and provisions of equipment to help make memories.
Tommy's are the largest charity funding research into the causes of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. They also provide information for parents-to-be to help them have a healthy pregnancy and baby. They fund four research centres in the UK that investigate causes and find treatments for miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

6 years agoDue to pool closure and illness I have only been doing this challenge for a total so far of 6 weeks so I'm halfway through. As this Just Giving page finished during this time I amin the pricess of donating that money to Teardrop and so therefore any money raised from this point on my new page will be for Tommy's.
