Ruby was born with bilateral tailipes in both feet picked up on the 20 week scan. At 10 days old she started ponseti treatment which consists of up to 12 months of casts, a tendon release operation then boots and bars wear for 23 hours a day. She wore these til she was 5 years old. Ruby then went on to have a number of different operations on her right side. After many relapses, all, in the end, were unsuccessful. Around 2 years ago it was first mentioned about Ruby having a below the knee amputation. Ruby and family went on to be part of a number of medical conferences and had a number of second opinions. In the meantime Ruby was in a lot of pain and having to use strong pain killers daily. She was losing her mobility, not able to walk far, giving up dancing and various activities etc. Due to constant pain Ruby took the brave decision to have a below the knee amputation.
I had a "wing walking experience" voucher for my birthday earlier this year, and wanted to use it to raise funds so that Ruby can have a magnetic prosthetic leg (in her own words) "a best leg". I have known Ruby and her family for many years. I own Y Bwthyn Bach day nursery where she was cared for as a baby and then later at our After School Club until she went to high school.
The cost of a magnet prosthetic leg is over £20,000 and is not available on the NHS, so any donation to help her reach this target will be so gratefully received and will make such a difference to her lifestyle. Thank you so much for your support. Nerys Jones
