In June, my grandmother passed away after a very short battle with cancer. This hit my family very hard as before she got sick, she had never had to make a visit to a doctor or hospital before. My mother was particularly upset as she did not get to see her before she passed and had actually begun planning her trip to Nigeria to see her a few days before she passed.

Two days ago, my aunty (mother's younger sister) passed away following an operation on a brain tumour. Her death came as a complete shock to everybody and hit my mother particularly hard given the fact she was not able to see her before she passed. Like my grandmother, she was a testimony to everybody that knew her. Her sudden change in health and behaviour came as a huge shock to everybody as she was always a smiling and healthy individual.

It's been so hard knowing my grandmother has been gone over a month without being buried. My family in the UK and in Nigeria are struggling to meet the costs to provide both my grandmother and aunty a good sendoff. With our own financial struggles here in the UK, we are very limited in what we can do to help and are trying our best to meet the costs of flying over to Nigeria for the funerals and provide funding to the burials.

My mother, like her parents and siblings, is a very loving and caring person. She is always trying to help where she can and never turns her back on those in need.

As the main provider at home (my dad passed in 2011), covering most of the household costs already takes almost all of my income as it is, making it difficult to cover emergency situations like this one. Myself and my siblings try as much as we can to help but are very limited given the overheads we cover here at home.
