Story
Memorial Tree for Pam Hibbs, a Lifelong Nurse
I am raising money to plant a tree in memory of Pam Hibbs (1935-2021) and all Camden residents who have passed away of COVID-19.
Pam was a very special woman. She worked as a nurse for her entire life, mostly in palliative care and the care of the elderly. Pam was passionate about improving the quality of patient care, and in 1986 she received an OBE for her work with old people at Hackney Hospital. Ten years later Pam returned to Buckingham Palace to receive a CBE for her work at Barts and the Royal London.
Pam cared deeply about local people and their local needs. Since retirement she supported a number of charities, including those in Camden. I met Pam when I worked for Healthwatch Camden, a consumer champion for health and social care in the borough. For many years Pam sat on the board as a chair and a trustee, and after stepping down she contributed her time as a volunteer.
Pam will be sorely missed by her friends, and I would like the memorial tree to be a place where people can go to remember her. I also hope the tree will give my fellow Camdenites somewhere local to go and remember their loved ones lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Whether you knew Pam or not, she would be pleased for anyone to have a moment of reflection by her tree.
Thank you for your time to read this and any contributions made.
Warm wishes,
Jemma Ayton
The tree will be planted in the Castlehaven Community Association park near to where Pam lived. I am very grateful to the CCA for providing a space for the tree on their grounds and their continued support.
The money raised will be used to purchase a tree, tree stakes, and a memorial plaque. Any money left will go towards The League of St Bartholomew’s Nurses of which Pam was a member.

3 years agoDear All, I am pleased to let you know that we’ve overshot the £450 target, and that I planted the tree and plaque. Thanks again for your support. I know Pam would have been delighted that her friends were brought together by this crowdfunder. It was truly an honour to get to know some of you along the way. I'm grateful to those of you who joined me at the planting ceremony on 5th May, covered by the CNJ http://camdennewjournal.com/article/tree-to-honour-warm-hearted-ex-nurse-pam-hibbs. Any money left will go towards St Barts League of Nurses

3 years agoDear All, I am writing to let you know how incredibly grateful I am for all your support. It’s been five days since I launched the crowdfunding for Pam’s Tree, and we have already reached 66 percent of the £450 target. I am really humbled by your generosity and your kind words of encouragement, they mean a lot to me. Your support is a testimony of how well loved and respected Pam was and how much she is missed. I hope the tree will live on for generations and help us remember Pam and everyone lost to Covid-19. Thanks again, Jemma

Pam was an active advocate for improving health services in the area and I had the pleasure of working with her on a number of occasions. She was always warm and generous in sharing her experiences.
