Story
Pams story
On 28th November 1998 our family lost the centre of our world, a loving caring husband and a fantastic Dad at the age of 54. Graham lost his fight with liver and bowel cancer in just 6 weeks.
His final days were spent in the then St Bridges Hospice in Douglas. It was a very calm and lovely place that gave Graham the best care that they could to ease his final days. But not only did they care for the patients but the family I stayed day and night the care that was extended to me was amazing.
Following Grahams death my girls aged then 15 & 13 as you can imagine went through all sorts of emotions, sorrow, anger, loss not knowing what was going to happen next. The wonderful team at Hospices stepped in to help us through the dark and lonely days.
I am now happy to say the pain of loss never goes away but you learn to live with it, move forward with our life which is just what Graham would have wanted us to.
In December 2017 my friends said “so what do you want to do for your 60th birthday in July?” my reply was take part in the Parish walk raise some money for Hospice and Cancer Research. So with that my brilliant friends said “OK we will do that with you”.
January 2018 the training began Annette Cunningham, Sue Gledhill, Steve Stafford and myself started pounding the streets of Douglas. We decided to make this our charity year so we have already completed the Lisa Lowe walk & the Harbour to Harbour with the relay for life planned for August and the Hospice midnight walk in September. I feel blessed to have amazing friends, who have all been touched by cancer and the loss of friends and loved ones.
So I would like to ask if you would make a donation to help me give the gift of help to others at the Isle of Man Hospice who are still doing amazing work with adults and children & Cancer Research we would love to help find a cure for cancer.
Instead of Birthday cards and presents for my 60th Birthday please make a donation as I have all I need in life I am blessed with, good health, lovely amazing friends, a roof over my head & food on my table.
Thank you for reading my story
