Story
My name is Pam Sayer and I live in North Somerset U.K.
Recently I volunteered to help for one month as a Volunteer at Moria Refugee camp on Lesvos Greece. The experience caused me to reflect on how fortunate I was to have been born in England when I could have been born in such countries as Syria, Iraq or Afganistan or the Congo, where many of the Refugees came from. Whilst there I witnessed first hand the distribution of strollers/pushchairs to young families. Unfortunately the non profit, non governmental organisation Eurorelief, that I was volunteering with, relies on donations to give out such things as disposable nappies/clothes and strollers or pushchairs to the Refugees. Eurorelief gave out all the strollers they had, but it was not enough for the need, and they do not know when they will have any more to distribute .
I had Refugee family members pleading with me for a stroller, but I could not help them. I had observed families walking long distances in the area carrying children (some men limping because they have been wounded in the past). The families walk outside the camp, where condition are very overcrowded, to the shops and to participate in activities or voluntary projects available for them outside the Moria camp.
Now back home in England, I have decided to try and raise enough money for 50 strollers (I was told they cost 30 Euros to buy in Greece.) There will be no admin charges as they will be bought in Greece, which will also help their economy as tourism in the area has been affected by the situation.
I'm sure those of us who are parents and grandparents can really appreciate how much difference owning a stroller will make in the lives of these families. If you contribute to this fund you could really be helping a Refugee family in a very practical way .
