URGENT URGENT URGENT !

For those that know me well, helping in a 3rd world country has been a passion of mine for many years. This year I was fortunate enough to fulfil my dream and travel to help the poorest people in India.
Although I went with the expectation of helping in my current role as a midwife, I changed my 3 mth project to childcare and I have been placed at an orphanage in the slums.

Nothing can prepare you for what to expect in terms of what you see, hear, smell, feel and experience. And nothing can help you come close to understanding the stories of heartache, abuse, neglect, rape and abandonment that they suffer.

It truly is heart-wrenching, but there is one major factor that improves their lives in such a profound way and that is the care and support given by the Orphanage. Although a far cry from western standards, the orphanage provides a clean and safe environment and basic essentials like food, clothing, counselling and support and some medical costs. It is supported by the Government but run and funded by a christian charity.

The Charity hopes to raise enough funds to relocate where the conditions will be much better. Currently they have no where to play outside and their resources are extremely limited.

Also in this slum area, children are neglected by their parents and do not get sent to school. The charity has initiated the facilitation of education to other vulnerable children eg. rubbish pickers and those in child labour. They strongly believe that education will transform their lives. With this concept in mind, they have initiated the construction of a local school building but it is not yet completed as they have run out of money.They really need the support from donations to be able to complete the school building and allow their mission to be accomplished.
