Our Target

Many of you may not be aware that we are currently training hard to ensure we complete the course and reach our fundraising target. The challenge is not easy and if we are really honest we are terrified and not really looking forward to that day… but, if we survive….at least one of us, will provide photographic evidence.

Sustainable trade project
In 2008 TJX sought to directly impact the disadvantaged cotton growing communities in the Rwenzori region in western Uganda.

Since then we have developed a sustainable trade programmes, not only for cotton but for coffee, cocoa and crafts too. The sustainable trade programme invests in community infrastructure to help the local people involved with the programme to produce better quality and higher yields on a range of fabulous products. This helps parents to increase their incomes so that they can afford to send their children to school.

The community benefits have been significant....
/ Ten years ago just over half the children were able to go to primary school. Enrolment rose to 93%
/ Cotton, coffee and cocoa co-operatives are fair-trade certified, helping the co-operatives achieve fairer pricing and better access to international markets
/ Both standards of living and nutrition improved and TJX provided clean, safe water in all schools
/ 3000 families have benefitted from Improved income as a result of the project.
Forever Home Trade Centre
TJX has been renting a centre where producers meet, crafts are collected and packed for shipping, and to run for training. However, TJX now want to buy and establish a permanent base for the efforts
