Story
1 in 2 children in Romania is exposed to poverty risks (Eurostat). This is a hard an immediate fact as 1 child for every 10 goes to bed hungry at night (Worldvision). And these are just national averages!
If Romania is at the bottom of the child poverty rankings in the EU, imagine how it is be brought up in one of the poorest villages in the country such as Ponorata. A life with precarious and temporary shelters, no place to have a shower, no hot meals, no, no, no...
1 din 2 copii din Romania este expus riscurilor saraciei (Eurostat). Aceasta statistica se traduce prin faptul ca la fiecare 10 copii, unul merge noaptea la culcare flamand (Worldvision). Acestea sunt doar medii nationale.
Daca Romania se afla la capatul clasamentului in randul tarilor membre UE la capitolul saraciei in randul copiilor, imaginati-va ce inseamna sa fii crescut in unul dintre cele mai sarace sate din tara - Ponorata se numara printre ele. Viata in Ponorata este una definita de camine precare si de multe ori temporare, lipsa unui dus cald sau a unei mancari calde. Lista lipsurilor poate continua.
Living in London doesn't give me a lot of room to actively get involved in tackling this issue, so I decided to support the activity of the wonderful people from Reality Check Romania. For a few years now, they have tried and did succeed in improving the education and living conditions of kids in Ponorata by: making sure children live less and less under leaky roofs; children get clothes, a proper shower and a hot meal per day at school; children get to see a doctor; children get to see Santa Clause and go on holidays. Remember the first time you went to the seaside? Imagine the joy they must have had when wetting their feet for the first time in the Black Sea waves. No need to picture it - here's a video of it .
I am well aware that no significant change can take place over night, but I'd like to think that even the most desperate cases are hopeful when people come together and put their minds, souls and hands at work.
Faptul ca locuiesc in Londra nu imi da ocazia de a ma implica direct in remedierea conditiilor de scolarizare si a problemei saraciei in randul copiilor, asadar am decis sa pornesc o campanie de strangere de fonduri pentru a-i sustine pe cei care o fac deja foarte bine - cei de la Reality Check Romania. De cativa ani, acesti oameni minunati au incercat si au izbandit in a ameliora conditiile de viata si de scolarizare ale copiilor din Ponorata. Numarul imbunatatirilor e mare dar merita mentionat faptul ca acum copiii se bucura de o masa calda in timpul scolii, de cate o vizita la doctor, de haine, de Mos Craciun si cateodata de cate o vacanta. Pe mine, imaginile de mai jos legata de prima vizite la Marea Neagra a acestor copii m-au emotionat. Imi aduc aminte nerabdarea mea de a vedea marea si ma intristeaza gandul ca multi copii nu au o asemenea sansa, sansa care pentru cei din "bula" noastra a fost intotdeauna un lucru normal.

Any donation is welcome. I also know that the £3,000 is quite high but sometimes it's nice to believe in great outcomes :)
Justgiving allows for payment in six currencies but not in Romanian lei (RON). If you wish to donate in RON you can do this with Reality Check directly, but please drop me a line to know.

Banii stransi din aceasta campanie vor merge catre reparatiile caselor in care copii din Ponorata traiesc. Asadar, orice donatie este binevenita. Realizez ca obiectivul de £3,000 nu e de ici de colo, dar imi place sa cred ca suntem cu totii capabili de lucruri marete :)
Justigiving permite donatii in sase monede diferite. Din pacate, donatiile in RON nu se pot face prin aceasta platforma. Daca va e mai convenabil sa donati totusi in RON, o puteti face direct prin Reality Check.

Please send me your postal addresses for the thank you gift at victor.nechifor [at] gmail [dot] com. I insist :) My next move is to organise a stall at my local farmers market in Telegraph Hill, London, to sell ceramics donated by my amazing colleagues and friends from the Kiln Rooms.
