Story
Update 10th May 2017 - So far we have raised £3125.27 since August 2016 . We've broken the £3000 barrier!!!
Thanks to Longford students for donating so generously today during their MUFTI Day. And thanks to everyone who has donated and supported me over the past 8 months. Lets see if we can get to £5000 by the end of July!
I started swimming in a beautiful outdoors unheated swimming pond in August 2016. Since then I have swam in the pond at least twice a week for a year and I will continue swimming until August 2017.
I am documenting my swims on facebook "swimming for teenage mental health" and here.
My aim is to raise money to improve teenage mental health through supported counselling. As a science teacher and Pastoral Head with nearly 23 years' experience of classroom teaching, I am fully (and tragically) aware of the increase in mental health problems among teenagers in Wiltshire (and the UK in general) . I sincerely hope that by supporting cheaper counselling for families and individuals I can make a difference and give young people a chance of happiness in today's complicated society..

7 years ago23rd May swim. The water was 18 deg C. This afternoon I was very interested in the increase in wildlife around the pond (never mind the humans...!) especially the dragonfly "cases" and the living one climbing out of the posts supporting the deck! It was rather alarming to think I was swimming with such huge creatures to be honest. I hope they don't bite! I took a little film of the waterlilies too. Hasn't the year come around fast. This is week 42 out of 52. And it is rapidly becoming so much easier and more enjoyable to swim. Happy Days!

7 years agoWe had a fantastic swim at Rory and Elizabeth's pond on 21st May. There were 20-30 swimmers, a great chicken lunch, some irish dancing, and the sun shone all day! So back at work today I was feeling pretty sunburnt but very happy. I'll let you know the grand total raised when Elizabeth has confirmed it for me.Thanks to everyone who came and for your generous and smiling support.
