    Story

On the 30th October, almost 35 weeks into my healthy pregnancy my whole world fell apart. This was when I was given the heart-breaking news that our baby's tiny heart had stopped beating.

I had carried this precious little bundle for almost 8 months feeling every kick and hiccup. We had spent time talking to our little bump and telling it about all our hopes and dreams for its long awaited arrival. In the blink of an eye within the words “sorry your baby’s heart is no longer beating,” this was all cruelly snatched from us and my world came crashing down. In that moment it felt as though my heart had stopped beating too.

On November the 2nd after a very short active labour I gave birth to our beautiful, sleeping boy Aiden William Menzies. Weighing just under 5lbs he was angelic and looked just like any other perfect sleeping little baby, the only exception was that we would never get the chance to see his eyes open or hear him cry. Although we had always loved him the feeling grew rapidly beyond our expectations when we saw him for the first time.

Up until this point (thankfully) none of us had any knowledge of a cuddle cot. But thanks to this marvellous piece of equipment we were able to spend the next 60 precious hours with Aiden at our side. During these treasured hours we were able to create lifelong memories with our little boy. We spent time holding and cuddling him, talking to him about the dreams and aspirations we had for him. We got to take so many precious photos of our perfect little angel so we can always look back and see how beautiful he was. With help from the midwife and staff at the hospital we were able to help wash and dress our little boy, have a naming ceremony for him and also get copies of his hand and foot prints. Continually while talking to him we were telling him how loved he was, which by the second, as we were getting to know Aiden this loving bond was growing into an eternal love stronger than anything we had ever felt before.

Although he will never be forgotten having had this valuable time with Aiden, getting to know our precious little angel, allowed us to make so many everlasting memories of our son, grandson and nephew which is something myself, Ritchie and our families will treasure forever.

Cuddle cots which are also known as cold cots are a very expensive and limited piece of equipment within neonatal units. Our family were very privileged to be able to get the use of one which helped us all so much. Having the use of the cot which helps to keep the baby at a cool temperature without deteriorating allowed us so much more valuable time to spend with our darling baby boy.

On February 25th my dad (Pat) and brother (Ryan) are doing a sky dive, our aim is to raise enough money to purchase a cuddle cot which we will donate to a hospital in Aiden's name. We would like to help other bereft families who experience a similar trauma as we had in memory of Aiden.

Please donate to help a grieving family during the most painful experience in anyone's life of losing a child. Whether it be £1 or £10 every donation means so much in helping us achieve our aim to keep our little boys name alive.

We would also like to help with any additional money we have going towards contributing to the making of memory boxes which allowed families to be given precious little memories such as their childs hand and footprints. Little teddies which allows parents and baby to have one each and other precious little mementos.

    Thankyou.
