Story
Hiiii everyone!
Soon I will be leaving behind all the comforts of the Western world & travelling to Rajasthan, India with Pravah & ICS, where I will be volunteering for 4 months. Here, I will most probably be showering using a bucket and sponge (and you know how much I love my toiletries!!), working in extreme heat & living in one of the poorest communities in the world. I will be staying with a host family & anticipate a lack of electricity, internet access & pretty much every one of my home comforts!
My role as Team Leader is to support my team in delivering community action. Our aim is to empower the local community & in particular young people, so that they can take control and make informed decisions about their lives. Our work will encompass the Sustainable Development Goals- goals that have been created by the UN to eliminate poverty, unemployment and inequalities around the world.
The projects we will be working on strive to provide sustainable support to local people- there is no quick fix for the issues they face- such as gender discrimination, poverty, lack of education around employment and staying healthy- so it is our hope we can make a lasting difference to their lives, for years to come, well after we have travelled back to the safety net of our comfortable lives we take for granted on a daily basis!
We will be listening to young people & learning about past projects that have been created, as well as carrying out research to find out what is exactly needed. We will then be brainstorming initiatives that we can help set up, but can be continued by local people when we leave.
As a team, we are not going out there with all answers, in fact, it's quite scary to think we will be dealing with such important issues- peoples lives- however, we will be going out there with an open heart and ear, an eagerness to learn, 110% enthusiasm & the most kick ass work ethic imaginable!
PLEASE help to make this change happen by donating here!
