Hi everyone!

It has been a dream of mine for years to be able to go out to Africa and try make a small difference to the lives of others! This year I have be lucky enough to be given the opportunity to do just that.

Myself and a small group will be heading out to Sesobe in South Africa in July as part of a short term volunteer project for a month. In Sesobe, we will be working with different age groups from youths to adults to help them become more involved in the community as well as to educate them, also renovation work will be completed on the facilities already there! We each have an aim, which is to raise £3,000 which will help provide the tools necessary for us to carry out our volunteer project and make a lasting impact in Sesobe.

The Friends of Africa organisation works alongside the Society of African Missions (a.k.a. S.M.A. Fathers) who have many members that are or have been short term or long term volunteers. The members are involved in raising awareness of African issues, organising social events and fundraising. They also assist with the FOA Volunteering Programme for those young people who volunteer to go to Africa. They have helped to establish centres for street children and developed initiatives in learning through sport.

The main aims of Friends of Africa are:

To be a voice for the people of Africa in our home countries.

To fundraise for designated projects in Africa.

To send volunteers to work on specific projects in Africa.

To make friends and support each other both at home and overseas.
