The members of the Rotary Club of Uppingham (RCU) would like to establish a Memorial Wood in memory of those who have lost their lives due to the COVID19 virus. Enthusiastic support has been obtained from Anglian Water and a site allocated close to their Whitwell car park. They have also offered help on planting the trees.

The Woodland Trust wants to make sure everybody in the UK has the chance to plant a tree and are giving away hundreds of thousands of trees to schools and communities. This gesture would form a basis of the Memorial Wood and additionally RCU would like to enhance the site with 20 or so more mature trees, plus a commemorative bench, which are costly items that we need funding for. It is estimated that the cost would be somewhere in the region of £1000 and we are appealing to the community at large to help us out.

Should the target be exceeded, RCU would like to include additional benches, plaques and landscaping to enhance the woods. The Wood will become dedicated remembrance site to give loved ones and visitors a space to enjoy the woodland surrounds and reflect on those who lost lives.

Please help us to help those who have lost loved ones by providing this special green space within Rutland for the purpose of quiet contemplation together with a contribution to reducing climate change.
