Story
SAPHIRA AGAINST DENGUE - Our amazing helpers in Dubai, Mia and Mike tragically lost their oldest daughter Saphira last week, she was just 5 years old. She contracted Dengue Fever and died before Mike and Mia could get back to the Philippines to see her. Mike and Mia have made huge sacrifices for their families working hard in a foreign country to provide a better start in life for their young family. They are two of the kindest people i know. Mosquitos carry Dengue, just one bite and her little life was taken away. Currently vaccines are not freely available and it has killed more than 20000 children in the Philippines this year already. It must be terrifying to think that if your child is bitten there is nothing you could do to save them. We want to try and help Mike and Mia protect the rest of their family from this disease by buying mosquito nets for all the children at Saphira's school and community and providing funds for them to buy the vaccine as it becomes available. Please help us by donating what you can in memory of this very special little girl who's life ended too early.

7 years agoHere are some more families you've helped. The baby in the picture has just been released from hospital but still is poorly, mum is very happy to have the mosquito net and creams to help protect him, the little boy in the top picture has also had Dengue as has the older boy in the blue shirt in the bottom picture - it's good to see some can survive the disease. I'm happy to say Mike is now back in Dubai with us, feeling weak but over the worst. Mia is hoping to bring Sabina back to Dubai with her soon. Thanks again for everyone's help.

7 years agoToday (a month since Saphira passed away) Mia has done an amazing job putting all your donations to good use. They've managed to source so far, a total of 100 extra large nets so the whole family could be protected and 100 creams. The pictures below show them busy distributing. The Balorah grandparents in the top picture have 2 more grandchildren in hospital with Dengue, In the middle picture the Calagos family lost 2 children, the dad in the picture has a high fever so Mia provided funds so he could get to the hospital.

7 years agoSadly I've had news that Mike, Saphira's dad is now in hospital with Dengue Fever, he is due to have blood transfusions today. We hope and pray he has the strength to pull through. He was supposed to return to Dubai today Here are some pictures of the conditions they are battling with. Mia says the community is trying to pull together to help but are getting little other support. It is an isolated rural island. .
