Story
In 2007 a Haitian lady, Yvrose, a trained teacher living the USA, was deeply concerned about the plight of poor children in Haiti who were not getting an education. Wanting to give something back to her homeland and moved by Christian compassion, Yvrose returned to Haiti and with her husband set up a small school, which along with education also provided meals, medicine and clothing, all funded from their own resources. When they ran out of money, Yvrose went back to the USA to earn money to keep the project going. Returning to Haiti in 2010 her plane touched down just short while before the country was engulfed in a massive earthquake. Along with hundreds of thousands of others, they lost everything and spent months living in a tent. In the ensuing chaos they began to help children who had lost parents or become separated in the confusion. Out of this traumatic beginning Hope House was born.
Today Hope House provides a home for 37 orphans, who live as a family, with the older children helping the younger ones. The school programme now offers education to over 750 children, including vocational training for the older ones. There is outreach into the local communities providing help and support for those affected by Hurricane Matthew last year.
The work is supported by gifts and donations from the USA, the UK and other European countries and a charity has been set up in the UK to support the work and to facilitate volunteers to go out to Haiti.
Scott and Sian Kenyon are going to fly to Haiti in January for 2 weeks to help in any way they can to help the children. This could be to aid the doctors and nurses who provide medicine and clothing each year. There are many tasks that need attention and we hope that with your support we can help raise a smile on the childrens faces, and make their future hopes come true.
