Story
We are looking for your help at this very difficult time due to losing our Dad Shaun Walley to a very tragic accident over in Thailand on Thursday 19th October. I wanted to explain our story so we can reach out for your help.
He was over in Thailand visiting friends which he did a lot by staying there on short and long stays in variation so he rented a short stay budget hotel. On the morning of the accident he was cleaning up and held on to the steel balcony handrail. There was a faulty light box sign that had a wire come loose that had made the handrail 'live' with an electric current, and when he grabbed the rail he was electrocuted and killed. The police and the local electric board have confirmed that the hotel are at fault and prosecution is pending. Due to hitting a lot of obstacles with him being in Thailand, us needing to get him repatriated and having to deal with a court case we are at a loss.
Not only are we dealing with his death and that he is still stuck in a foreign country with no family members around him, we also have to come to the realisation that we are looking to prosecute a company for gross negligence that have financial difficulties in a very poor country. They cannot even assist with an urgent repatriation so we can lay him to rest asap. It is looking likely we will not be receiving financial support from the hotel in any way and even after prosecution which will be a long drawn out process, the highest value of compensation will not cover costs.
Why we need your help:
* We need to repatriate my Dad back to the UK (only to London)
* Having his belongings brought back because that isn’t included in the repatriation
* UK funeral fees which include retrieving the body from London and returning back to Stockport
* Solicitors fees which include fighting the hotel in court and a flight for myself to Thailand to represent him
After a lot of telephone calls, waiting around, speaking to the Embassy, Foreign office, Citizen’s advice, friends in Thailand, Thai specialist solicitors, reaching out to the local MP and dealing with funeral parlours….the list goes on…all we are left to do is hope, wish and pray for help! Shaun is not only a husband and a Dad but he is an uncle, granddad, brother and good friend and has left a lot of devastated family members behind who are finding it very difficult that he is no longer with us due to gross negligence.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the support and kind words of family, friends and colleague of us all at this very difficult time, we would not have been able to cope without your help! In addition, we thank anyone able to assist us at this difficult time and I promise with your help I will lay my Dad to rest peaceful on UK soil and fight to get the justice he deserves!
Lots of love

7 years agoThank you again for your continued support! Down to all of your help we now able to pay for the repatriation. We cant do this until the police have given the full report and finish the autopsy, then we can go ahead. I have spoken with the solicitors today to get that pushed because we are now having to pay a daily fee to keep him in the police forensic institute so the sooner the better. We will be going forward with prosecution but that will be a lengthy process and is likely to end up the person being sent to prison. Thank you all! x
