Recently Baby Sophie, who has been hospital since she was born, was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition making her 1 of only 7 known cases in the world. She battled for 4 months in the Bristol Hospital for Children, with her parents never leaving her side. Tragically, Sophie has now lost her battle.

During her short 4 month time in this world parents, Dan and Andrea Atkins, have had to split their lives between supporting Sophie and each other in Bristol, while maintaining their architectural practice in Plymouth. This practice is their passion and their livelihood. Unlike employment where compassionate leave, holiday entitlement and weekends would have provided some relief in this time of mourning, the pressures of running a business will continue to be on their minds during a difficult time.

We are launching this appeal to raise money for Dan and Andrea to use as they see fit, whether it be to donate to further research into Sophie’s condition, provide funding to the hospital and carers, or simply enable them to take some much needed time off together to heal.
