    Story

I am running the Brathay Marathon in May this year to raise funds for a local Autism charity called Autus. Jemma Swales the founder of the charity is well known in the area and does some amazing work with individuals (including my son Jesse) on the Autism Spectrum. She also does a lot of valuable work with local schools to help educate people about this complex condition.

    A Little About AUTUS:

In March 2011, Jemma Swales (Psychology BSc, Postgrad Certificate in autism) set up "Jemma Swales Autism Services" as an independent autism practitioner in Cumbria. By early 2013 Jemma realised that the need for services of this type was greater than one person working alone could provide. She started discussing ideas with a small group of parents of young people on the autistic spectrum. Initially they decided to run a series of holiday activities for young autistic people in the area starting in the summer of 2013. These were a success and the group decided that it was time to set up a unique and proactive team. 'Autus' was born!

Holiday activities have run every summer, Christmas and Easter holiday since then and the range of activites being run is steadily expanding.

    Mission Statement
Autus promotes understanding, inclusion and equal opportunities for individuals within the autistic spectrum.
Autus promotes a holistic support network within a safe and calm environment.
    Aims and Objectives
    · To provide specialist support to individuals and families affected by autism and related conditions within a holistic approach.
    · To promote awareness and understanding of ASC's to both the general community and providers of services.
    · To allow individuals with ASCs and their families to access a range of activities, support and advice that aim to: enhance social and emotional wellbeing, build friendships, support the development of skills and provide short breaks for parents.

Well done, good effort mate. I've done London marathon before but Windermere is much harder so I can appreciate the pain you went through, and all for a worthy cause.
