    Story

As you may already know, Tarvin Primary School have previously supported Bufunda School in Ibanda, Uganda. Before Covid, we were beginning to form links with this school, and we are excited to be able to restart this connection. Some of you will remember that back in 2019, the school staff raised money for the school by walking to school. The money raised contributed to the building of staff accommodation, which enabled the school to retain teachers, some of whom were having to walk in excess of 15 miles to work each day.

Bufunda are now looking to build two new year 6 classrooms, complete with IT equipment, at a cost of £5,300. This is 24,510,558 Ugandan Shillings. Termites have eaten the classroom which didn’t have any windows or doors. The new classrooms will also allow the children to work in a safe environment. The new classrooms will provide space for 50 children to be taught in their last year at primary school.

We, Mrs Tyrie & Mrs Rigby, will be joining a group going out to Uganda in May to visit Bufunda School and the project, along with a couple of families from our school. We will be working alongside the teachers and children and offering any other support necessary. We will also be doing some artwork with our children before we leave to take with us. Our children will send letters to the children at Bufunda, and we hope to bring some responses back with us from our visit. We will deliver an assembly to the children on Monday to explain the project to them. We will also keep the school community updated with the progress following our visit.

If we, as a school community, are able to raise £500, the Tarvin School staff will walk to school on Wednesday 26 April 2023. The majority of staff will be taking part in this, walking between 5-15 miles with one member of staff walking 16 miles!! If we can raise £1,000, the staff will walk back home on the same day!

Please sponsor us to do this by Tuesday 25th April by 4pm.
