Our journey with Matilda starts just before Christmas 2019. This is when we found out that we were expecting our baby which as you can believe gave us great excitement and happiness.

However not long after finding out we were having a girl we found out Matilda had some problems which would make the rest of the pregnancy harder.

Matilda on her 20 eek scan was found to have her stomach on the wrong side, a cleft Lip and some major heart issues. We were then moved to the care of Liverpool Women’s hospital and would remain so until our girl was still born on June 30th 2020 for reasons still to be concluded.

To say we were devastated is an understatement and is something we still struggle with on a daily basis.

One way in which we have manged to lessen the pain is with the help of family and friends raise money in her memory and help other children.

The first charity drive came with the help of her cousin Nancy raised money for a memorial bench near grave side at Gorstage Cemetery and for presents to be donated to children at Alderhey Children’s Hospital. In raising this money we learned that there are 270 beds in the hospital and we thought that a nice thing to do would be to have every child in the hospital to get a present at Easter and through another drive we managed to hit our target and provide 270 gifts.

We have now set our sights on this now being an annual fundraiser for both Christmas and Easter for all 270 beds and are now looking to launch The Matilda Foundation.

So even through the hardest pain of losing our sleeping Angel we hope she brings happiness to sick & variable children for as long as possible
